Hey Team ….. just thought I would share this with you. This was the foreword from my second book “Go Coach Yourself”
THE COACHES LAMENT
I am out here for you.
I have always been out here for you.
I will always be out here for you.
When it’s early and still dark………………………………
I will be out here for you.
When it’s cold and wet ……………………….…………….
I will be out here for you.
When I am tired and worn out ………………………..…..
I will be out here for you.
When you are tired and worn out……………………..…..
I will be out here for you.
When others are telling you to do differently ……………
I will be out here for you.
When you are not happy with me …………….……..
I will still be out here for you.
When every one else has deserted you ……….………..
I will be out here for you.
When you have given up on yourself …………….……..
I will be out here for you.
You will always know where to find me………..you will find me standing by the side of a hot dusty road waiting for you to return……. you will find me standing by the side of the pool while you swim……. you will find me standing by the running tracks while you do repeats……. you will find me organizing equipment for you……you will find me guarding you against traffic and other obstacles….and while you are celebrating you will me find preparing for our next challenge.
Please understand I don’t want to do this, but I don’t have a choice. Coaches don’t choose this calling, it chooses us. We are driven by a desire that we do not fully understand. But I can tell you this, we all have a burn in the pit of our stomach that is only extinguished when we are able to be part of helping you achieve your dreams.
You don’t know what it’s like to be a coach, out here for you the athlete. It is an up-at-dawn, responsibility and accountability siege that a coach will never fully tell you about. But…then again I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love that you have chosen me to help you in chasing your dreams. …………
